WOOHOO!
Fantastic party everybody!
Evidently, from the way people crowd around Pit 35..spill drinks like drunkards..take heaps of random pics..sit serenely on that big sea-rock thing..WE ALL HAD A FABULOUS TIME.
haha, sizzy word.
WE ALL HAD A WONDERFUL MAGICAL TIME.
Special thanks to the teachers, who’ve always been there for us like that big sea-rock..
all the seniors. we love you. you make us sec 3s feel very loved and pampered (like kiddies), and fill the lower secs with awe (and as Vice-Prez mentioned, a huge void to fill!). really okay
the ex-co, for their tireless behind-the-scenes & above-the-pit work..the creating of the beautiful gifts..and the many meetings we had to pull it all together
the sec 1s…2s…3s.. who graced the event with their beach costumes. thank you for enjoying the bbq stuff, and for being there to amp up the party atmosphere!
the constant sea breeze, which brought an element of holiday-ish-ness.
the ppl who played the treasure hunt and didn’t faint in pique upon realising there were no prizes.
BTW, the winning team’s photo will be put up here.
haha!
okay okay, so i’ll post the pix from Carmina’s camera soon.
watch this space, lovelys.
OBS Experience by Salmaaah! December 9, 2008
Okay so Mdm N told me to share my experience during OBS here. Whatever that’s below is a copy&paste from my blog, so yeah :B
-
Outward Bound Singapore!
Day One.
I made my way to school in the morning and all of us bused our way to Punggol. We sat in our Watch and many more schools came after that. It felt kinda weird at first. My watch is called Raffles and half of it was from Chua Chu Kang Secondary School. Raffles is made up with Adeline, Timothy, Farha, Jasmine, Wei Xuan, Azri, Chi Ming, Jia Lun, Jia Le, Benjamin, Amira, Hema, Arvind, Si Ying, Cherlyn and myself. After the so called briefing, we met our Instructor and she’s Nafeeza (Nafeefee). She always reminded us to expect the unexpected. We had icebreakers and we played this shoe game. Got to know each other and all and ferried to Pulau Ubin. We had store check and familiarised with the equipments. After that we had lunch and practised Kayaking. Even then, I still had fear of capsizing. Pitched tents and we had outdoor cooking while freezing cos it was raining and we were still wet from Kayaking. We had our dinner, washed the utensils and disposed the biodegradeable and non-biodegradeable stuff. Settled down as a Watch after washing up and had briefing for our 1.5 km Trekking tomorrow. Packed up and lights off.
Day Two.
Rise and shine! We had PT in the morning which was games, stretchings and 5 Basic Exercises (5 BX) with Dagama and Raleigh. We had Morning Circle where our respective instructors will start with a quote followed with individuals’ reflection and sum it all up with a story. After, we did this fall thingy and belaying practice. We had final check of our stuff and set off for Trekking to Camp 1. I was impressed with the bond, motivation and support from Raffles eventhough it was only our second day. We reached Camp 1 and everyone settled down to have lunch. Halfway through our lunch, Nafeefee told us to pack up and meet her at second level as she had a surprise for us. The surprise was that we were going to have 4 proper meals which was Day Two’s lunch, dinner and supper and Day Three’s breakfast before Land Expedition (LandX). Everyone rejoiced and we quickly went for lunch. After lunch, we had high elements which rained when we were about to finish. So the rest had indoor high elements and washed up for dinner and supper. As usual, we had to pitch tents and this time it was at night so it was dark and wet but all was fine.
Day Three.
Raffles was woken up by one of Raleigh’s member who said that we were attacked by dogs but in actual fact, he meant that our bagpack area was attacked by dogs. We unpitched our tents and checked our bagpacks. The dogs were desperate for food I guess. As usual, we had the normal Morning Circle. So today was the real LandX which includes finding checkpoints and navigating with compasses and maps. Although we had to carry such a heavy load, it was fun cos Wei Xuan and I kept singing and everyone joined in the fun. I got hyper and started going crazy and infected everyone. That really made all of us forget about being tired. After the 3rd checkpoint, we made our way to Camp 3 which was still quite far. We met Raleigh who was making their way to Camp 3 as well. Raffles being Raffles, we cheered for Raleigh and surprisingly, Raffles chiong-ed our way and some of us even ran with our heavy bagpacks and tents. We reached Camp 3 and massaged each other. Raleigh reached and we cheered for them again. Gathered for Sea Expedition (CX) briefing with Raleigh and we’re officially called Rafleigh. CX was the next day and after briefing, half of Raffles did outdoor cooking and the other half pitched tents. Camp 3 was the best campsite although it was the furthest from civilisation. Some peed/changed behind the tree and some peed by the sea. It was funny cos I think some of the boys were chased by stray dogs. HAHAHAHA Afterall, it was fun. The rest went for CX briefing by CX Leaders while Wei Xuan, Adeline, Jasmine, Jia Lun and I cleaned up the cooking area. Packed up, lights off and we had our respective Century Duty. I stargazed during Century Duty, romantic yknow! ^^
Day Four.
We did our normal routine which was to unpitch tents. We packed our food for CX and bagpacks and had breakfast in the dark. Soon when it got brighter, we were all ready to set off for CX. Rafleigh gathered in a circle to have Morning Circle and everyone had to say what we expect for CX in a word. The 4 CX Leaders had their say and all of us set off at 7.30am. We aimed to reach Camp 2 by 3pm. I separated with Amira cos we had only 11 kayaks. So I was with Nazhi and Steph while Amira was in another kayak. CX was wacky and it was a whole load of fun. Nazhi was threatening Steph and I that he’s gonna capsize without warning. He kept rocking the kayak and I was screaming, he ended up just laughing at me. -____-” Rafleigh made our way through the rivers and swamps. There were times when we had to carry our kayaks and cross the bridge or muddy areas. Azri & Nazhi tricked the boys about the drop-off area and all of us had a great laugh. Kayak-ed our way till we meet the sea again and we were just oppostite Johore/Pasir Gudang. Then we stopped for lunch and Steph and I had time to lie down on our Kayak cos Nazhi was being nice for once. HAHAHA He almost made us capsize in the middle of the sea but he ended up not doing so cos this time I was screaming like a crazy girl. We sang during lunch and while making our way to Tajam and by then, we were reaching Camp 2 already. We stopped for a while to see Nafeefee do the Eskimo Roll which was cool but scary. She’s super pro okay. We kayak-ed a little bit more and all of us had to officially capsize. Nazhi, Steph and I decided to paddle super fast and ended being the first to reach the jetty area to raft up. Rafleigh rejoiced cos we reached way earlier than the expected time. Everyone helped to carry the kayaks back the the shore and washed them up. It started to rain when we were washing the kayaks & lifevests. When we’re in the shelter, I asked Jasmine to join in to spin in the rain and after that, Rafleigh stood in the circle and we played in the rain together. Nafeefee and Boo told us to wash our Ponchos and again, we played in the rain :B After collecting our bagpacks, we made our way to the store to wash up and report at Block 5 to have dinner. Sadly, Adeline had to leave before dinner cos she was leaving for Taiwan the next day. Everyone bade goodbye and washed up. Tonight’s dinner was ala buffet as we planned to do so. Nafeefee told us that Raffles will be cooking for Raleigh and vice versa. Everyone put all the effort into cooking the Appetizer, Main Course and Dessert. We had our presentation and Nafeefee told us that we were actually cooking for ourselves. She just wanted to see if we’re putting the effort to cook for our friends and she shared the story about Phua Chu Kang and King Kong. In any case, Rafleigh shared our food and all of us were full to the brim. As usual, we scrubbed our utensils while the rest went to pitch tents or cleaned up store room. Raffles was supposed to do our jetty jump at the end of our CX but we didn’t do so cos it was raining and it was dangerous. Nafeefee didn’t make us do so before our CX cos she wanted to make it a meaningful jump. That night, only half the Watch wanted the jump. So we decided as a group not to have it. After our final meeting as a Watch with Nafeefee at night, we went to sleep.
Day Five.
As usual, I woke up on time to wake the rest up. We unpitched our tents and made our way back to the store which was locked and I couldn’t find the keys so I went around to look for the keys and came back realising that the keys was with Timothy and the store was open when I came back. It’s okay so we packed and cleaned up. We had our breakfast and PT which was just games. After which we had our Morning Circle and Commitment Bell. I was the lightest so I had to do the Commitment Bell first. I had to do it THREE times cos I couldn’t reach the bell but Raffles carried me and I ring that bell. So after everyone did it, we received our certificates where Nafeefee made us congratulate and give the certificates to our friends. We filled in a feedback form and made our way back to the store to clean up and hang our cleaned tents. We carried our bags to Block 4 where we had closing. That was when some of us got rather emotional when we had to separate. We took lots of photos together and Adlyn finally had her scandal photo. HAHAHA We were dismissed to board the ferry by school so Chua Chu Kang was separated from Anderson. We met them again at Punggol and by then everyone was queueing up to buy souvenirs. Met up with Chua Chu Kang again and they had to leave cos their bus came already. We had our final goodbyes and it was time to leave for the rest. Thanks to Adlyn and sister and brother, I had lift home. (:
Final Words.
OBS isn’t only fun, muscle aches and being tired, it is actually a platform to discover the true self of an individual as a leader and also, we get to learn and accept strengths and weaknesses of others and self. Each participant was chosen for their capabilities but when you are there, you will have to work with other leaders and some of us tend to step up. It serves us as a time to reflect upon our modern life when we are back to basics in OBS, reflect on every step that we take and words that we say. We learn to have a firm stand and be confident of our actions and also take pride of what we do. We take responsibility of our ideas and have integrity in our work. As a leader, you’ve to take risk and you can be a good leader by being a good follower. Afterall, the friendships forged and the fabulous moments we shared together are kept as memories. Raffles, thank you for being the best. I can never imagine myself surviving all 5 days without your support and motivation. I have never expected us to bond so well on the first day itself. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in OBS and I would stay a little longer if I could. I will always miss the hyper and wacky Raffles and please meet up as Rafleigh okay! Many sincerest apologies for anything and everything throughout the 5 days. And not to forget, thanks to Raleigh for the support & fun times we spent together as Rafleigh.

To end this post, I want to share a photo I took at Kangaroo Island and it holds a lot of value to me. One of the few photos I’m proud of.

Love you all!

SYF, Marryatville, & a little something about a certain party… November 27, 2008
Hey ya!
What’s been going on during your hols?
In case you’ve moved to some distant planet where chocolate & ice-cream & luscious cocoa aren’t easily avaliable, here are the ATC updates you need to know about.
1. SYF Preperations
2. The mindblowing Marryatville Trip
3. Party time for party animals, namely us.
(1)
19 of your fellow ATC-ians went for an intensive, gruelling, ohsoexhausting training regime from 17 – 21 Nov, that’s FIVE DAYS. 4 days of 6 hours (minus lunch), and a 3h voice workshop.
Now that’s hardcore. But we loved every moment of it <3
Btw? This is all highly classified & Code-Red, meaning you don’t breathe a word to this, to anyone, ever.
We played dozens of Trust Games, Teambuilding games..etc., every single day to hone our rapport & sense of togetherness. To explore our creative side too, Miss Jo also let us do improvisations like the really funny one where people were stuck in a crumbling building, and dying..etc.
Soon, we moved on to serious business, where we divided into groups, dissected the TOP! SECRET! SCRIPT!, and worked as groups on our given parts.
That day was especially fruitful; many ideas sprung to fruition, & we were certain the fruits of our sweet labour would be savoured in no time. Yummy sentence.
Gawd, this is distracting. Back to basics!
So after being very involved in the script, and getting to know it inside-out, upside-down, we finally split up into 2 major groups of 9 each, to work on the whole of the Top. Secret. Script. for an entire day!
A mini-play, by Anderson.
In conclusion, the days were well-spent, and filled with laughter and fun games, and excellent interaction time to improve our group dynamics. Also, getting a real bite into the script which we are going to modify like the Wiis in Sim Lim, was really good in our path of Drama-Script-Understanding Enlighting Journey.
Rock on.

Seeing is believing. Head on to our Marryatville Site to see what we’ve learnt while in Southern Australia!
Things that’ll amuse you
-Violent seasickness nearly always culminates in an inability to consume foods like risotto, and other foods in general for the next 24 hours or so.
-The amazing friendliness of the people there.
-How everyone is so generous with their hugs and Love yas and Hellos.
-The wacky photos.
Speaking of which, there must be hundreds of pix by now! (in numbers upward of a thousand)
Must compile everything soon. Grrsh.
For those who have this trip in your agenda in your near future….congratulations.
You will not regret flying there. You won’t forgot the fun you’ll have.
The forming of close-ties that will happen during the trip will last you ages after.
Learning about drama, yourself & your friends while in Adelaide would make your holidays very substantial indeed.
The sights, sounds & smells that flood your senses will change your perception of life.
& the friendship you will treasure will make you very glad that you got the chance to be there.
Serious.

Hmmm..it’s not really meant to be publicized yet, but here it is anyway.

Be free on 12 Dec, because a beach party is on your way!
Our focus, highlight, spotlight, target..etc. will be our graduating seniors, the Sec 4 batch of 2008!
That is all for now.
